Color, Form, Materiality, Resonance
At first it was photography, then it was fashion, then it was interiors, and then it was creating iridescent ai butterflies….and after a while I realized it all was just art. And I loved art.
What I was looking at and for, regardless of the medium, was a combination of color, form, materiality and resonance- that was as illusive as it was powerful when found.
Color- Colors elicit a range of emotional responses unique to each viewer. It is a language beyond words.
Form- Forms can create polarity or difference and affect mood. I often think of form in the balance of yin/yang in the room, piece or object. Are the forms too hard edged? too rounded? too surreal or not surreal enough and everything is flat? I think of the power of brutalist buildings or the intricate, delicate forms of flowers. Form can express power and transcendence visually, which is endlessly fascinating.
Materiality- Fashion and Travel best embody the impact of materiality. Moroccan Berber Rugs, unlacquered brass, coco-beaded chandeliers, marble vs. concrete, velvet vs, burlap. Materiality story tells form.
Resonance: Resonance/ symbolism is personal, universal, political, intellectual, comedic, spiritual, irreverent… It’s the meta of the design. It’s the mind, muse or message behind the design that creates a golden line linking the creator and audience via art.
The expression of these four qualities and their balance is what makes art resonate, elevate, vibrate for me. When the unseen is made seen and the there is a presence to the room or piece that radiates from the creator.
